The Crimea is a peninsula located in the South of Ukraine and washed by the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. The population is 2,642 000. The first settlements appeared here in early Paleolithic. The Crimea is known as treasury of ancient cultures and each corner, each valley, each rock and each bay has its own charm and beauty. SYMFEROPOL. Administrative and cultural center of the Crimea, 852 km far from Kyiv. The population is about 400 thou. The city is the gate to the Crimea as here the airport and the railway station are located. It is the first point on the route to Crimean resorts. YALTA. This town located 79 km to the South from Symferopol is well-known as a resort of world's fame. The population is about 150 thou. Speaking about Yalta, people usually mean Greater Yalta stretching along the seashore for almost 44 miles and including such beautiful pearls as Gurzuf, Livadia, Miskhor, Alupka, Koreiz, Gaspra, Simeiz. SEVASTOPOL. One of the most significant cities in the Crimea. Navy port, industrial, scientific and cultural center. The population is above 300 thou. In the western part of the city you can find ruins of Chersonese found in the 5th c. BC. But the city is, first of all, famous as a navy fortress on the Black Sea which was glorified during the Crimean war (19 th c.) and WW II. 1.
